[Also in Division H1] A chromatographic detection system comprises athermionic flame ionization detector (see Division H1) having two electrodes 3, 4 and a flame jet electrode 2 so connected that the wanted ionic current IP due to a phosphoro-organic sample from a gas chromatographic column 18 is derived from between the electrodes 3 and 4 and passed through a D. C. amplifier 15 to an indicator 17, e.g. a pen recorder, while unwanted currents Ir + Io due to the combustion of organic compounds and to sliding of the frame by an alkali halide coated on a removable tip of electrode 3 are largely confined to the circuit between electrode 3 and jet electrode 2.
