A lubricant supply safety system for assuring adequate lubrication of a machine during run-down, for example in the event of a power failure, comprises a reservoir (6) for lubricating oil, a hydraulic motor (8) driving feeder pumps (11-14) supplying lubricating oil from said reservoir to various points in said machine, a first pump (1) for driving the hydraulic motor (8) under normal operating conditions. A second pump is continuously driven, via a belt for example, by the lubricated machine and is automatically engaged by a fail-safe valve (7) to drive said hydraulic motor (8) immediately upon a failure of the first pump (1). Normally said second pump (2) recirculates oil through a filter (9) and a cooler (10) to an upper compartment (6a) of said reservoir (6). |
