ELASTICALLY EXTENSIBLE MECHANICAL FASTENING SYSTEM

A mechanical fastening system (8) having an elastically extensible substrate (12). The fastening system (8) comprises prongs (10) joined at a base (14) to this substrate and extending outwardly therefrom to an engaging means. The substrate (12) deforms in response to applied forces and provides the advantages of independant engagement of each prong (10) with a complementary receiving surface. The substrate (12) may be advantageously used in disposable absorbent articles such as diapers or sanitary napkins.
