In a wire electric discharge machine constructed so that an electric current is supplied from the upper and lower sides of a work (2) to a wire electrode (1) through current supply elements (4, 5), a concentrated electric discharge judgement method and apparatus are provided, which are provided with means (6, 7) for detecting the current flowing in these two current supply elements (4, 5), a means (8) for detecting a total dischage current, and means (9-19) for detecting a difference between discharge positions of two consecutive electric discharge operations by using outputs from the current detecting means (6, 7) and an output from the total current detecting means (8), which outputs are obtained by two consecutive discharge operations, a concentrated electric discharge judgement apparatus being formed which is adapted to judge concentrated electric discharge on the basis of the outputs from the discharge position difference detecting means, the mentioned method and apparatus being capable of detecting the presence and absence of concentrated discharge by using a smaller number of structural elements; reduced numbers of comparators and reference voltage sources.
