1,241,350. Primary electric cell. F.M.C. CORP. 21 Nov., 1969 [25 Nov., 1968], No. 56987/69. Heading H1B. A primary electric cell comprises a negative electrode, e.g. Zn, Zn-base alloy, Mg, Mg-base alloy, and a positive electrode, e.g. C, Pt or mild steel in contact with an ionizable peroxydisulphate depolarizer, e.g. of Na<SP>+</SP>, K<SP>+</SP>, NH 4 <SP>+</SP> and Li<SP>+</SP> containing an ionizable phosphate, preferably orthophosphates, pyrophosphates and peroxy-diphosphate. The cells are of the deferred action type and may be operated by placing the electrodes directly into a solution of the depolarizer, by adding a conducting liquid to the depolarizer in solid form in the cell, or by impregnating a carrier such as paper with the depolarizers and wetting the carrier with a conducting liquid either before or after insertion between the electrodes. Conventional additives may be used with the depolarizer. |
