Mobile base station and antenna arrangement to provide radio coverage for a tunnel

The provision of radio coverage for a tunnel poses particular problems if the radio field range within the tunnel is intended to be integrated within a cellular mobile radio network. A mobile base station (BTS) and an antenna arrangement to provide radio coverage for the tunnel are provided in such a way that a tunnel radio cell (TC) is formed which covers the entrance areas of the tunnel as well as the inside of the tunnel. For this purpose, the antenna arrangement comprises a plurality of antennas (AS, AL, AO) which feed the mobile base station in co-channel mode. For each of the antennas, the mobile base station contains an RF/IF stage and an AF stage common to all antennas. The transmit signals are generated there as digital broadband signals and the receive signals are superimposed. The mobile base station operates accordingly on the basis of the macrodiversity principle. The invention can be particularly advantageously used for the provision of radio coverage for railways within a radio link network. <IMAGE>
