Grate cooler

If an intermediate crusher is integrated in a grate cooler, in particular in a thrust-grate cooler for cooling hot material, such as, for example, hot cement clinker coming out of a rotary tubular kiln, this requires a grate stage, e.g. 1.5 to 2 m high, arranged between the front and rear cooling grates. But in known grate coolers this grate stage undesirably increases the overall height of the grate cooler and thus of the foundation heights of the upstream units such as rotary tubular kiln, calcinator, cement-raw-meal heat-exchanger tower. In order to minimise the overall height of such a grate cooler despite integration of an intermediate crusher, it is proposed according to the invention to arrange dust-collecting funnels (17, 18, etc.) known per se in the cooler area up to the cooling-grate stage (13) between the cooling-grate underside and the at least one dust-conveying member (20) located underneath it, but on the other hand not to arrange dust-collecting funnels under the cooling grate (15) in the cooler area from the cooling-grate stage (13) up to the cooler end, but to arrange the at least one dust-conveying member (20) right below the cooling grate (15) and to pass it directly through the air chambers at this location by the creation of labyrinth sealing gaps. <IMAGE>
