PURPOSE:To obtain a ceramic sliding member having an enhanced fracture toughness value as well as a low coefft. of friction. CONSTITUTION:This ceramic sliding member consists of ceramics as a motrix phase 1 and whiskers or fibers 3 dispersed in the matrix phase 1. The ceramics is ZrO2, Al2O3, Si3N4 or SiC and the whiskers or fibers 3 are made of a compd. of one of groups IVa, Va, Vla, VIIa, VIII and Ib elements such as iron oxide or silicide. |
