The invention relates to optically active oxygen- and sulphur-containing heterocycles of the general formula (I) <IMAGE> in which X is O or S and n is 0 or 1 and in which R<1> has the meaning of hydrogen, bromine, OH or an optionally substituted cyclohexyl or phenyl radical, or a linear C1-18-alkyl radical in which one or more CH2 groups can be replaced by -O-, -S-, -COO-, -OOC-, -CO-, 1,4-cyclohexyl or by 1,4-phenylene or 4,4'-biphenylyl, and whose terminal CH3 group can be replaced by a (CH3)3Si-CH2-Si(CH3)2 group, the radicals R<2>, R<3>, R<4>, R<5>, R<6> and R<7> are identical or different and denote hydrogen, C1-18-alkyl, C1-18-oxyalkyl, aryl or aralkyl, where, if n is 0, R<6> and R<7> are hydrogen and the compounds where X is O and R<1> to R<7> are hydrogen are excepted, and, if X is O and R<2> to R<7> are hydrogen, the compounds where R<1> is Br are excepted.
