<p>A method for obtaining lactulose crystals from an aqueous lactulose solution in the form of a syrup containing other sugars, wherein (a) an amount of ethanol is added to said syrup to give a mixture in which the mass of water forms 1.27-8.5 % of the combined mass of ethanol and water; (b) said mixture is boiled for a sufficient time (t) to ensure the sugars are completely dissolved in the ethanol, and the lactulose in the ethanol is reflux crystallised; and (c) the mixture is filtered to recover the lactulose crystals from step (b).</p> |
