PURPOSE:To provide a thermal head having excellent thermal response and can be employed in high speed printing, by forming a heating section in one inclined face section of a glaze layer and cutting a thermal head basic material vertically from a cutting point at the top portion of the glaze layer. CONSTITUTION:An amorphous strip glass is mounted on an alumina ceramic substrate 1 and a glaze layer 2 having a semi-circular cross-section is formed through print burning. A heating element film 3 made of tantalum nitride, for example, is formed on the upperface of the glaze layer 2 and a lead electrode, i.e. a common lead conductor 5 and a discrete lead conductor 4, is formed on the heating element film 3 while facing thereagainst. A discrete lead conductor 4 and a common lead conductor 5 are arranged on one inclined face section of the glaze layer 2 so as to obtain a thermal head element where a heating portion 6 is formed in the center of only one inclined face section. Then the thermal head element is cut vertically from a cutting point at the top portion of the glaze layer 2. Consequently, the heat accumulation volume of the glaze layer 2 is halved and a thermal head having excellent thermal response and applicable on high speed printing is obtained. |
