The device consists of a protective plate (1) fitted on the vehicle steering equipment. Its surface which is turned towards the air bag has penetrating components (2) for puncturing and slitting apart the air bag during the commencement of the inflation phase to prevent the pressure blowing up the bag being allowed to act with full force against the protective plate. - The device has a clamping member (3,4,6) so shaped that the protective plate can be fitted at a distance from the covering (9) which normally encompasses the air bag so that it is not prevented from opening for freeing the air bag. The penetrating components (2) on the protective plate comprise at least one blade. |
