The present invention relates to a front axle assembly for a motor vehicle. The front axle assembly is characterised in that it comprises a crossmember (8) connected to the structure of the vehicle by its ends by means of two upper articulations (10) constituting a transverse axis of tilt for the crossmember (8) and, in the event of a frontal impact on the vehicle, allowing the crossmember (8) and front articulations (7) for the lower wishbones (6) connecting the two front wheels (1) to the structure of the vehicle to shift backwards. The invention finds an application in the automobile industry.
