The cap (1) made of aluminium or aluminium alloy, intended to be crimped over the neck (4) of a bottle whose collar (5) comprises a lower crimping shoulder (7), comprises a head (2) and a truncated cone-shaped skirt (3), characterised in that, in order to allow satisfactory capping and subsequent opening with a knife, on the one hand, the said skirt (3) comprises a succession of at least two truncated cone-shaped walls of increasing thickness and, on the other hand, the aluminium or alloy of the said cap is in the annealed state, its micro-hardness being between 25 and 35 Hv, and the number of grains in the thickness of the skirt being between 2 and 7. The method comprises the intermediate manufacture of a blank with stepped cylindrical walls of different thicknesses. <IMAGE>
