The present invention is tongs forming two jaws which are characterised either in that they are each composed of two branches facing each other in pairs, or in that they are formed of two branches each one facing a third branch common to the two jaws, in order to grip a nail or some other fastener (screw) by virtue of a spring device (3) tending to clamp the branches against each other and having another spring (4) allowing the separation between the branches to be sufficient at rest to hold the nail firmly and to narrow (close up) as the nail is driven into a support. <IMAGE>
