PURPOSE:To improve the breakdown strength of a data electrode driving circuit of a matrix type display panel and to enhance the reliability of the display device. CONSTITUTION:A modulation voltage Vm which is necessary for the modulation driving of plural data electrodes X1 to Xi forming a matrix type display panel 12 is supplied to a data driving circuit 14 from a modulation voltage circuit 15 through a modulation common line Lm. A Zener diode ZD is connected between the line Lm and a ground line Lg in the circuit 15 and the diode ZD prevents an increase in the potential of the line Lm induced by the conduction of higher potentials of scanning electrodes Y1 to Yj to the data electrodes X sides. By beforehand setting the specification level of the Zener diode ZD be less than the breakdown voltage level of the circuit 14, the circuit 14 is operated under a safe environment which is less than its breakdown level resulting in an improved reliability.
