摘要 A negative zinc electrode for accumulators (storage batteries, storage cells, secondary batteries) has a porous conductive matrix made of copper, which is generated by electrochemical reduction of copper oxide. The fabrication of the electrode body is effected by pressing or rolling a ZnO/Cu2O powder mix, followed by it being treated with a cathodic current. Optimal electrode quality is achieved if initially only a minor fraction (up to 30 %) of a designated binder addition (PTFE) is premixed and granulated with the ZnO and then the granular material is blended (mixed) with the Cu2O and the major residual amount of the binder. During the subsequent cathodic reduction it is necessary to maintain potentials at which the generation of hydrogen does not as yet take place.
