The invention relates to a comminuting device for comminuting an object (B) which has been fed together with media (7) into a comminuting container (8) so that it is comminuted. The comminuting container (8) comprises a cylindrical comminuting container (8) open at the top and a rotatable agitator (2, 4, 5) which is arranged in the centre of the comminuting container (8). The outside diameter of a shaft (2) of the agitator (2, 4, 5) corresponds to 30% or more of the inside diameter of the comminuting container (8). Web-like arms (4, 5) are connected in several steps one above the other and horizontally to the shaft (2). The shaft (2) is of hollow design so that a first passage is formed in the shaft (2) in order to let through a heating medium or a cooling medium. A casing (9) is provided around the comminuting container (8) so that a second passage is formed between the casing (9) and the comminuting container (8) in order to let through a heating medium or a cooling medium. The object (B) fed into the comminuting container (8) is comminuted by the rotation of the agitator (2, 4, 5). In the process, the non-uniformity with regard to the circumferential speed between the roots and the ends of the arms (4, 5) of the agitator is slight, so that uniform comminution is achieved.
