Process for preparing alkali salts of cephalosporin C

Zinc salts of Cephalosporin C are dissolved in a solution of halides of univalent metals at a temperature of 0 DEG -25 DEG C. and the pH is adjusted to 1-2 prior to being ion exchanged with a sodium form cation-exchange resin packed in a column and being eluted with a water miscible solvent. The column can be further eluted with a solution of halides of univalent metals.
