Crosslinkable polyethylene compositions including: - at least one high- or intermediate-density polyethylene (written PE); - a minor proportion, for example from 0.01 to 0.5 % by weight, of at least one free-radical generator; - a minor proportion ranging, for example, from 0.2 to 2 % by weight, of at least one crosslinking coagent, - and a minor proportion, for example from 0.1 to 1.5 % by weight, of at least one photosensitiser. This type of composition has the advantage of being crosslinkable in the melt in short times which are compatible with a crosslinking of the PE during the extrusion of tubes, sheaths or sections made of PE which reach high gel contents over considerable thicknesses.
