The invention relates to self-lifting platforms used for the construction, renovation, or upkeep of façades of buildings. Essentially described is a structure with two masts (12 and 14) supporting a platform (10). Each mast has a rack and the platform has two motors each one interacting with one of the masts. Means are provided for improving safety, and especially for preventing any risk of tipping of the platform which might be due to a breakdown in one of the holding motors. These means include, in particular, a shaft for synchronising the two motors, and detectors making it possible to detect exaggerated loading of one of the motors, in order to cut off the power supply to the two motors if just one motor is not enough to keep the platform horizontal. <IMAGE>
