PURPOSE:To improve the decoded picture quality and the compression efficiency by coding a picture signal based on the property of the picture signal subject to split coding. CONSTITUTION:In the picture signal transmission method where a picture signal is coded through the combination of in-field coding, in-frame coding, inter-field coding and inter-frame coding, when the in-field coding or the in-frame coding is executed for a field or a frame of the picture signal, the picture signal is inputted to a division circuit 2 using a dual orthogonal wavelet function, in which the signal is subject to division coding. When any of the in-field coding, in-frame coding, inter-field coding and inter-frame coding is used through selection, the picture signal is inputted to a division circuit 5 using a Haar function, in which the signal is subject to division coding. Through the constitution above, the coding in response to the property of the picture signal subject to division coding is attained and the selection of the coding method is facilitated in matching with the local property of the picture signal. Furthermore, motion compensation is applied and the compression efficiency and picture quality of a decoded picture are improved as a whole. |
