Device for joining vertebrae, comprising firstly a joining element (3); secondly at least one securing element (4) with an end part (8) having an opening (9) therethrough for a screw (10) or other fastening member; and thirdly attachment means (11) for attaching said at least one securing element (4) to the joining element (3), characterised in that the opening (9) in the end part (8) is slot-shaped, and in that the securing element (4) is provided with means (12) which lend lateral stability to the screw (10) or other fastening member which is fitted through the opening (9) in the end part (8).
