Folding apparatus comprises a longitudinal folding device (1), transverse-cutting and transverse-folding devices (3, 4.1, 4.2), second longitudinal folding devices (11), a paying-out device (9) and transport devices (12) for transferring folded products to the second longitudinal folding devices. The apparatus has a modular construction permitting different formats in which production of different folded products is possible. The first longitudinal folding device (1) and the transverse-cutting and transverse-folding devices (3, 4.1, 4.2) are supported by a base frame (8), the paying-out device (9) is supported by a first supplementary frame (10) and the second longitudinal folding devices (11) are supported by two second supplementary frames (14), the frames being connectible in different arrangements. Lower and upper discharge devices (5, 6) are provided in the base frame, the lower device (5) having a deflecting roller or alternatively a second folding blade cylinder (7) which can function to form a second transverse fold or to deflect products. <IMAGE>
