A pressurizable flushing toilet (10) includes a pressurizable water container (14) having a movable stopper (49) closing a water discharge outlet (22) in the container (14). A controller (72) energizes a solenoid (54) to move the stopper (49) between an outlet closing position and an outlet opening position. A water level sensor (42) is mounted in the container (14) and supplies a signal to the controller (72) indicative of the build-up of a predetermined level of water within the container (14). The controller (72) activates a compressor (62) to pressurize air in the container (14) above the water to a predetermined pressure level. A pressure sensor (48) is mounted in the container (14) and generates an output signal when a predetermined pressure level is reached within the container (14).
