In the present invention, a process for residue-free waste treatment is described, in which a) the waste is separated into three fractions, a fine fraction having a particle size of <100 mm being discharged as screen undersize (through fraction), a coarse fraction being obtained as screen overflow (oversize) and a light fraction being removed by suction, b) the fine fraction according to process stage (a) is composted, c) the light fraction according to process stage (a) is comminuted to a particle size <100 mm and is then converted to the gaseous state, d) the coarse fraction according to process stage (a) is freed of iron-containing substances, freed of heavy matter, comminuted to a particle size of <100 mm and then converted to the gaseous state, e) the gases from the gasification stages according to process stages (c) and (d) are isolated, f) the residues from the gasification according to process stages (c) and (d) are fused.
