The covering of a tubular electrode comprises a number of tubular sections equal to the number of rods of active material 6 and made up from an equal number of U-shaped members of fibrous material 7. Preferably as shown in Fig. 7 the free arms of the U-shaped members 7 enclose the closed part of the member 7 in front of each of them and the members 7 also comprise an outer layer 5 of a perforated foil of, e.g., plastics material. The fibrous material may be of plastics material, glass or a combination thereof. A single outer cover for the whole electrode may also be provided (Fig. 12, not shown). |
