A surface-type fastener is disclosed which includes a pair of base strips (11, 11') each having longitudinal ridges (13) and transverse ribs (14) defining therebetween elongate apertures (15). The fastener has a number of rows of interengaging elements (12), each having a stem portion (16) extending substantially at right angles from the longitudinal ridges (13), and an arm portion comprised of a pair of hook shaped engaging arms (17). The arm portion is which is substantially as large as the associated aperture (15). The interengaging elements (12) in one row are offset in position with respect to those (12) in the next adjoining row. In each row, the interengaging elements are spaced-apart longitudinally to provide an engaging space in which the arms (17) of the base strips (11, 11') can be resiliently engaged with one another when said base strips (11, 11') are pressed together. The advantage of the fastener of the invention is in that it is suitable for use not only in flexiblearticles such as clothing, sleeping bags etc. but also in relatively rigid articles such as decorative panels, furniture etc. |
