The device includes an inclined support (16) for an optical fibre (15) which is to be aligned with one or more fibres (11) of a flat ribbon (10), and an inclined support element (12) serving to support a gripper (9) in which the flat ribbon is mounted. The ends of the fibres are engaged in guiding V-grooves (13) which include a central alignment region (14). In order to achieve alignment, the fibre to be aligned and the fibres of the flat ribbon are brought respectively into the alignment region by making them slide, each in one of the said V-grooves, in order to bend them over a predetermined length so that their ends are brought into the immediate vicinity of each other and so that they are substantially tangential to the said V-groove in the vicinity of their ends only. <IMAGE>
