A photo-sensitive composition comprises a dispersion obtained by introducing dry, fine particles of a cross-linkable protein in a solution of a light-sensitive cross-linking agent and a solvent and a non-solvent for the protein, the solvent being present in amount sufficient to provide superficial swelling of the protein but insufficient to destroy its particulate form. Gelatine and cusein are the specified proteins, water and isopropyl alcohol are the solvent and non-solvent respectively and lithium dichromate is the cross-linking agent. The composition may contain a dye or silver halide so that an imagewise exposure and development (containing an acidic silver halide developer where necessary a visible relief image is produced. In the example, a solution of cusein in aqueous ammonia is added to an aqueous solution of gelatine containing silver nitrate and potassium chloride, spray dried to produce protein particles of 10-20 microns, the dry particles are dispersed in water and isopropyl alcohol and added to an acidic solution of lithium dichromate in water and isopropyl alcohol and then coated on a paper or metal support. |
