PURPOSE: To provide a magnetically detectable cable without adversely affecting the operation characteristics of the cable by contriving an existing waterproof tape inside the cable. CONSTITUTION: In this dielectric coated optical fiber cable comprised of a core 22 provided with an optical fiber transmission medium 26, a tubular member 32 made of plastic for surrounding the core and an exterior system 34 arranged around the tubular member 32, a waterproof means 30 provided with a magnetically detectable means 60 arranged around the tubular member 32 for blocking the flow of water in an axial direction is provided further and the magnetically detectable means 60 generates identifiable detection signals to signals generated by other metallic pipes.
