In known control valves the valve spool is acted upon by a return force which is generated by a compression spring. The existence of the compression spring, however, involves a certain manufacturing and assembly cost and has an unfavourable influence on the brake operating performance. A reduction of the said cost and an improvement of the brake operating performance is achieved in that the valve spool (19) is acted upon by the pressure of the coolant for generating the return force. <IMAGE>
