Fluoroisocyanates and fluoroazaolefins - from carbonyl cpds,cyano halides and fluoride salts

Fluoroperhaloalkylisocyanates of formula: (where Y1 + Y2 indep. = F atoms or fluoroperhaloalkyl gps. either of formula: CF2X(CFX)m-, where X = F, Cl, Br,. and m = 0-6, or formula: -CF(CFX)n, where n = 3-5), and/or fluoroperhaloazaoliefins of formula: are prepd. by reaction under anhydrous conditions at 200 degrees C of a carbonyl cpd. of formula: (where Z1 is Y1 or Cl, Br, I, and Z2 is Y2 or Cl, Br or I), with a cyanohalide and an ionisable fluoride salt which can form an alcoholate salt with the carbonyl cpd., in the presence of a proton-free, polar liquid. The cpds. are useful water-repellents and chemical inters. Fluoroperhaloalkyldiisocyanates of formula: (where R v a covalent bond or a 1-12C perfluoroalkylene gp. or a 4-6C perfluorocycloalkylene gp.), may be dicarbonyl cpds.
