The invention relates to a binder for an interior plaster based on calcium sulphate capable of binding together with water, which contains a finely divided residue essentially containing calcium sulphate from waste gas desulphurisation from coal-fired combustion facilities having a Blaine specific surface area of > 10,000 cm<2>/g in an amount of from 20 to 80 parts by weight, depending on the Blaine surface area of the calcium sulphate which lies in the range from about 1000 to 10,000 cm<2>/g, to set a customary water requirement.
