A paper-forming emulsion is composed of (a) a poly-alpha-olefine, (b) an organic solvent with b.pt. below the m.pt. of the polyolefins, (c) a dispersion medium which is incompatible with the solvent, and in which the polyolefin is insol., and (d) a polymeric surfactant of structure (I): or (IV) a polyvinyl alcohol onto which a vinyl monomer is grafted; X is H or CH3; A and B are H, a 1-20C hydrocarbon radical, Li, Na, 1/2Ca, 1/2Mg, 1/2Zn or 1/2Al; R1 is H or a 1-30C hydrocarbon radical; R2 is H, COOR3 (R3 is H or a 1-30C hydrocarbon radical), OCOR4 (R4 is a 1-20C hydrocarbon radical), halogen or CH2OH; and R5 is OCOR6(R6 is a 1-20C hydrocarbon radical), OH or CH2OH. The emulsified dispersion is extruded through an orifice under is not autogenous press. The hydrophilic surfactants do not become eluted into the water during storage and transport of the pulp. A more uniform paper is obtd.
|
