Mineral fibres are made from glass slag or rock are formed by preparing a thin moving molten film of the mineral and directing a high velocity air flow from a low pressure source in a direction across the direction of flow of the thin film so as to produce fine fibres which solidify after leaving the air blast. The fibres are collected on a conveyor belt and treated to form a mat.
