PURPOSE:To effect positive overheat preventive operation of a gate circuit upon short circuit of an IGBT element. CONSTITUTION:The gate circuit for power converter is provided, on the primary of a transformer 2, with means 18 for detecting overheat of the primary winding of the transformer, and means 17 for interrupting AC power supply to the primary of the transformer upon detection of overheat. When an IGBT element 16 in the gate circuit breaks down and overcurrent flows through a gate resistor 15 and the transformer to overheat the primary winding thereof, the overheat detecting means detects the overheated state and the current interrupting means interrupts interrupts AC power supply to the primary of the transformer thus protecting the gate circuit against ovecurrent and overheat. |
