In a load/unload apparatus for loading/unloading a head slider, an actuator (3) is driven by pulses from a driving circuit (11), and when the pulse is OFF a counterelectromotive force is detected in a voice coil motor and is fed back to the driving circuit, so that the driving circuit (11) controls the position and the speed of the actuator. Accordingly, the load/unload speed can be controlled to a desired value, and collision between a head and a disk can be minimized.
