Polyamide (nylon) mouldings are prepared by pretreatment followed by activation with noble-metal compounds from subgroup 1 and/or 8 of the Periodic Table. The pretreatment is carried out in a liquid comprising a dihydric or polyhydric alcohol having a flashpoint of >/= 100 DEG C, a halide from main groups 1 to 3 of the Periodic Table, an inorganic or organic acid and optionally water.
