Compounds of the formula (I) or salts thereof <IMAGE> in which R<1>-R<4>, W, A, n and m are as defined in Claim 1, for example R<1> and R<2> = H, (substituted) alkyl, (substituted) alkenyl or alkinyl, (substituted) cycloalkyl, (substituted) aryl or acyl and A = (substituted) pyrimidinyl or triazinyl, are suitable as selective sulphonylurea herbicides and plant growth regulators. (I) is prepared analogously to known processes via intermediates, some of which are new, for example suitably substituted pyridylsulphonamides (II) and N-tert-butylsulphonamides (VIII) according to Claim 5.
