It is characterised in that in the contaminated space one or more permeable shafts are arranged which are filled with microorganisms which degrade or accumulate contamination and are incorporated or immobilised in solid material and which shafts are optionally aerated, and/or receive additions of oxygen-bearing substances and/or through which liquid is pumped.
