PURPOSE: To position and feed a sheet correctly with the unit ofμm, in a non- contact and inexpensive manner. CONSTITUTION: The position of a sheet 16 is monitored and controlled using a measuring unit 2 provided with a light source 12, an optical element 14 and a photoelectric element 16. The output signal from the photoelectric element 16 is supplied to a control unit 20 for this purpose. The control unit 20 transmits the corresponding control signal for a drive means 36 of sheet transport rollers or a moving means 38 based on the data supplied from a printer control unit 24 for readjustment of the measuring unit 2.
