The present invention relates to a bonded sewing thread which has on its outer surface an impregnation activatable before processing and consisting of at least one precursor material, the precursor material being converted chemically, after its activation, to form a product which gives the sewing thread increased bonding. The advantage of sewing threads of this type is that they do not become untwisted particularly during industrial sewing. A sewing thread of this type can therefore also be used particularly well for chain-stitch seams.
