The hand-held radio telephone is still intended to ensure at least limited transmission and reception operation even when the antenna is retracted. To this end, an antenna is provided which consists of a linear quarter wavelength sealed dipole connection which can be pushed into a receptacle in the radio telephone housing and of a quarter wave helical antenna (helix antenna) which is connected thereto and always remains outside the radio telephone. <IMAGE>
