In a wheelslip control system, coarse control 2 is effected by regulating wheel speeds with respect to a selected reference wheel 3 and subsequently fine control is effected by balancing the speeds of either a) each of the wheels on one axle with the corresponding wheel on the other axle at step 7 when drive torque is low and speed exceeds a minimum or b) each wheel with the other wheel on the same axle at step 9 when the drive torque is high, the degree of cornering is low and the speed exceeds a minimum value. The degree of cornering is determined by differentiating the time deviation of the speeds of the wheels on an axle with respect to each other. <IMAGE>
