摘要 A method for the treatment of exhaust gas by catching fine particulate substances in the exhaust gas flowing out of an internal combustion engine using a honeycomb structured filter comprises the following stages: (1) Catching of the fine particulate substances contained in the exhaust gas as the exhaust gases pass through the filter; (2) Stopping of the flow of exhaust gas through the filter and transfer of the fine particulate substances caught to a point remote from and outside an exhaust line as the fine particulate substances caught by the filter flow in a direction which is opposed to a direction of flow of the exhaust gas and (3) combustion of the fine particulate substances and release of the combustion residues to the outside. The filter preferably has a honeycomb structured body and second sealed sections in first and second rows at opposing ends of the honeycomb structured body. Gas flow inlet passages are in each case provided close to and upstream of the first sealed sections in one of the first rows respectively and pass through inner walls of one of the first rows respectively, whilst each of the gas flow inlet passages passes through an outer peripheral wall of the honeycomb structured body at at least one of its opposite ends.
