A peristaltic pump housing (1) interacting in use with a drive unit (22) via a drive shaft (30) including a casing (40) with a tube-engaging surface (12), a compressible tube (11) and rotary rollers (14) friction driven by the drive shaft (30). The compressible tube (11) is arranged on the tube-engaging surface (12) and compressed by the rotary rollers (14) to convey the fluid contained therein. Before being used for the first time, the rollers (14) are in a radial position in which the tube (11) is not closed off. When they are first used, the rollers are shifted radially by inserting the drive shaft (30), whereby the tube is closed off. After use, the rollers (14) are held in a radial position in which the tube is closed off.
