PURPOSE: To efficiently detect and correct an error at the time of using DPSM encoding/decoding to record/reproduce video data. CONSTITUTION: This device substitutes a continuous n-bit group of an input digital signal with respective words from the whole of m-bit data words, each of which has a related n-bit, code word (n>m), to decode the input digital signal and is provided with a means, which determines the Hamming distances between the n-bit group of the input digital signal and respective n-bit code words related to the whole of m-bit data words, and a means which substitutes the n-bit group of the input digital signal with m-bit data word from the whole of m-bit data words, such that Hamming distances between n-bit code words related to m-bit data words and the n-bit group are shortest. |
