PURPOSE:To make maximum use of the sheet storing capacity of bin trays in a sorter. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of bin trays 711-7110 to receive the discharged sheet, a bin tray elevating means 77 by setting the space between the bin tray in the receiving part of the sheet and the bin ray one stage upward to be wider than the space between other bin trays, and a control means to select the sort mode to elevate or lower the bin tray by operating the bin tray elevating means 77 every time when the sheet is put into one bin tray or the group mode where the sheets are continuously put into one bin tray are provided. The maximum allowable number of the sheets into one bin tray in the sort mode is set to be more than the maximum allowable number of the sheets in the group mode.
