A description is given of a process for producing transporting crates from plastic, in particular bottle crates, which have a base, a peripheral upper frame, corner supports between the upper frame and the base and outer walls, which are interrupted at least in the region underneath the upper frame, so that carrying grips are formed. For saving polymer material, and consequently costs and weight, in regions of relatively large cross-section, in particular in the region of the carrying grips, there are provided inner cavities which are not filled with the polymer material but are surrounded by it. In a known way, these inner cavities are hollow. Since, however, the production of such hollow profiles entails difficult production problems, it is provided according to the invention that, in the injection mould (1) for producing the crates, one or more inserts (2) are fixed, which are encapsulated with the polymer material over at least part of their surface and form the inner cavities. <IMAGE>
